AUSTIN - Fort Worth has the state's second-largest solar power capacity, after Austin, according to a new report released today by the Environment Texas Research and Policy Center. The report examines national solar power plants in major cities and finds that the solar capacity installed in all major US cities comes from Fort Worth, with more than half of that coming from Austin.
Honolulu ranked first in total solar capacity in the country, while Los Angeles ranked second with more than half of the country's installed solar capacity and Honolulu ranked third.
The state added 227 megawatts of solar capacity in 2016, behind only Nevada and North Carolina, and that's more than Texas added in 2015. San Antonio led the state, coming in 5th in total solar power capacity for the second year in a row. Greenville, Plano, Arlington and Grand Prairie rounded out the top five cities with more solar panels installed than Atlanta, Nashville, Detroit, Minneapolis and Orlando, all of which had more solar panels installed than any other city in the country.
Texas ranked seventh nationally in solar installed capacity in 2016, behind Nevada, North Carolina, Florida, California, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois and New Jersey.
